Berliner German Bar and Restaurant Tuen Mun Branch
Frühstück (Breakfast)
A traditional German breakfast usually consists of a variety of different types of bread and rolls, honey, jam and either coffee or tea. For those who prefer a something savory to start their day, cold cuts and meats are also served. For a little something extra, boiled eggs, yoghurt or quark (a very popular cream cheese), fruit and muesli or cornflakes can also be had for the first meal of the day.
Mittagessen (Lunch)
True to German tradition, the midday meal is usually served between twelve and one o'clock, and is the main meal of the day. More often than not, Lunch consists of potatoes, vegetables and meat yet in Catholic areas meat was not eaten on Fridays and was usually replaced with a fish or egg dish instead.
Kaffee und Kuchen (Coffee and Cake) German Tea Time
On Sundays an additional snack is often served in the afternoon in German culture. A variety of cakes and sweet treats are prepared and offered to family and friends. In Germany you will often be invited "zum Kaffeetrinken," meaning coffee and a substantial intake of cake, rather than lunch or dinner. The cakes served vary according to the time of year and the season. For instance, in the summertime it is likely that a freshly made plum or strawberry cake will be served whereas in the winter it will usually be Christstollen or Früchtebrot which are both made with dried rather than fresh fruit. The variety of cakes available in Germany is endless and many have become favorites all over the word such as Schwarzwälder Kirschtorte (Black Forest Cake) and Apfelstrudel (Apple Strudel).
Abendbrot (Dinner)
Dinner is often consumed at six o'clock and, as the name suggests (Abendbrot, literally means evening bread) is normally a cold meal served with a selection of bread, cheese, cold meat and salad. A small hot dish may also be served from time to time and is often leftovers or soup. Many people drink black or herbal tea with dinner.
