Maggie Joan's Dining and Bar

At “hidden” restaurant, Maggie Joan’s, the address may say “Amoy Street”, but you need to walk a bit further towards the back of a row of shophouses before you chance upon an olive tree and a grey door that will lead you to the dining space.

This “hide and seek” adds to the dining experience and once in, you may choose from one of three seating areas decked out in dark wood and raw brick walls.

Clever dishes, like the poached egg ($6) has been rolled in dukka (a spice blend), then expertly deep-fried and served with a blob of saffron mayo, are impressive. For mains, you would do well to order the pan-fried seabass ($31), with red pepper lardo, dill and sour cream.

At Maggie’s they serve both lunch and dinner, for in-between meals, head over next door to Gemmills where tea, coffee, toasties and baguettes are served.
