Pie & Tart Specialists is a Hong Kong style bakery that, as the name suggests, specializes in pies and tarts prepared and baked in a Hong Kong style.

The local taste preferences are for sweeter, tarty flavored crust compared to the more savory preference of many western palates. And the pies here are have thicker crust and less filling compared to what you find in western countries. This style doesn't lend itself well to traditional savory pies, like chicken pies, curry beef pie, etc and those expecting something similar to what they find at home can potentially find themselves quite disappointed with the Hong Kong style of making pies, which works better with sweeter pies, like the milk tart pie you can find here. As long as you understand what you are ordering, its a fun place to try and you can get a couple pies for under HK$20, which is very cheap for buying pies anywhere.

Hint: One of the things we like about the Pie & Tart Specialists is that they give you a great take away brown-paper bag that is sturdy and flat on the bottom. We end up using the bag for other purposes for quite a while before it shows its wear and tear and requires recycling.
