Tai Ping Koon Restaurant
No one had told us about this old establishment before we left on our Hong Kong food trip so it was to our utter delight that we walked into Tai Ping Koon on a Friday night.
Judging from the local crowd and their friendly banter with the old waiters (dressed in vests and bow-ties), we figured TPK must be a familiar hangout for Hong Kong families.
Sure enough, the Roast Pigeon we ordered was splendid -- sweet and succulent, accompanied with a small serving of a dark house sauce & the pigeon's giblet/heart/liver. The Western Fried Rice surprised us too, with its wok-hei and unusual ingredient of ox tongue. What a pity our stomachs did not have room for the recommended giant soufflé, an obvious favourite with Hongkongers..
