Thai Simple Kitchen
Grub: Thai cuisine with a mix of time-honoured and trendy food items available.
The menu manages to satisfy those who seek traditional bites and yet surprise those who are bored with the regular offerings of Hong Kong's Thai restaurants.
Vibe: After taking the private lift to the top floor of the building, you emerge into what could pass as a funky health spa in Phuket. Thoughtfully and comfortably decorated, the space manages to feel traditional, yet there are some very hip touches.
There is also a patio where you can dine alfresco. With Hong Kong's summer heat and the authentic, spicy food, you'd be forgiven for thinking you're sitting at a beach-side location in Koh Samui rather than on the roof of a building in the middle of the metropolis.
Who to bring: A great place for dinner with friends you haven't seen in a long time. The relaxing ambience, both indoors and out, make it the perfect place to lay back, chill and catch up over an array of delicious dishes.
Its convenient Causeway Bay location means it's an ideal place to visit after a hard day's shopping, or for a pre-movie meal - it's actually right next door to a cinema, and only a few minutes away from the JP and Times Square cinemas.
The atmosphere also makes it great for well-established couples - the tables are a little too close together for first dates, but dining under the stars is always romantic.
What's hot: The restaurant offers a great Thai drinks menu and a huge range of appetizers; this is definitely a place to order several dishes and share.
One of the most creative main dishes, is the golden pillow. It is made of sweet Thai curry with baby clams stuffed inside a loaf of bread which is then baked, resulting in a delicious mix of crusty bread enveloping spicy sauce.
What's not: Be sure to be very specific when you order; I ordered Pad Thai, but received a different sort of fried noodles.
The private elevator is very small and stuffy, so avoid going on busy nights if you're claustrophobic. And if you go on Fridays or Saturdays, it will be busy: expect to spend a long time waiting in a very long queue.
Cost: Around HK$100 to HK$150 per person.
