May's Sawaddee Thailand

We returned for a follow-up meal at Sawadee Thailand recently after an outstanding meal we had here in August. While a decent meal, the food we had on this occasion was far less impressive than our previous meal. Unfortunately, there was little to be excited about on this occasion, meal was just very average.

For this lunch, we had the same deep fried spicy bean curd (HK$48) that we much enjoyed a few months back. This was not fried particularly well, resulting in the tofu being quite saturated in grease and soggy. The starter was still spicy and ok (rating 2.75 of 5) but not nearly as nice as our order a few months back.

We also had the minced pork with basil and chili (HK$68) that was not great, either This classic Thai dish was cooked with way too much soya sauce and was not particularly enjoyable either (rating 2.5 of 5). Wouldn't order this one again as we don't care much for the Sino-Thail style dishes. Lastly, we ordered the Train Rice (HK$48) that was sort of a random vegetable rice with some basil and light chili. This was ok (rating 3 of 5) but needed chili/fish sauce to intensify the flavors, worked well with the minced pork dish.

Overall, our recent lunch at Sawadee was far less impressive compared to a diner we had here a few months ago. It reminded us of the few marginal meals we had here several years past, not really worthy of return visits. Perhaps lunch is not the right time to eat here, chef might be out! Suggest dinner time only based on an excellent meal we had on a Friday night back in August.
