Ah Teng's Bakery

Inspired by and named after a tearoom and confectionery formerly located on nearby Victoria Street, Ah Teng’s is a modern bakery rooted in tradition. Have an early morning cuppa within its cosy confines, paired with sweets or savouries served piping hot from the oven. From quiche and scones, to different types of bread, cakes and traditional French and Danish pastries, the selection of offerings is displayed to tempt and available all day long.

The Ah Teng’s of today is not a far cry from its namesake either. Popular in the 1950s, it was helmed by an eponymous baker renowned for his skill in Western pastries. There, local families gathered for tea and cakes after church on Sunday. English servicemen and their wives would also drop in for pastries during their visit to the city, from the bases in Sembawang and Changi.

No wonder then that the delicious fare at Ah Teng’s lingered long on the taste buds of its faithful patrons. When Raffles Singapore made plans to include a bakery following its restoration in 1989, it was decided that the name and concept would mimic the one on Victoria Street, allowing it to make a deserved comeback.
