DimDimSum Dim Sum Specialty Store (Sha Tin)

This is a dim sum specialist franchise with four branches in Hong Kong, including a small unit at Citylink Plaza in Sha Tin, just above the Sha Tin MTR Station. Opening hours are 8.30am to 8pm and they can be quite busy throughout the day, particularly at normal meal times.

Dimdimsum serves up affordable and pretty good dim sum, and they have developed something of a following over the years on the tourist trail here in HK. They are occasionally mentioned in travel guides, recommended on the TripAdvisor Hong Kong forum and do well with their Jordan and Mongkok branch listings here on TA.

This branch in Shatin is not conveniently located for the majority of visitors to Hong Kong, who will be staying in more centrally located hotels. As such, it receives very few reviews. Otherwise, the food here is just as good as what you'll find at the other branches. Odds are you really enjoy what you try here. Its not the best in HK but probably much better than what you may have tried in Chinese restaurants elsewhere around the world.

This Dimdimsum shop in Shatin is quite small and regularly has a full house when I pass by. There is an outdoor seating area which can help provide additional seating when weather is nice. Otherwise, be prepared to wait for a seat if you want to eat here.

There is an menu with pictures (and English) just outside the restaurant, best to take mobile pictures of what you want to try or be familiar with the dim sum names. Order sheets are in Chinese only, typical of Hong Kong. Not to worry, there will be someone working who speaks English and should be able to help. If not, show them the pictures of what you want to try and you'll do fine ordering.

Note: If you are planning to visit Man Fat Sze (10,000 Buddha Monastery) or spend time shopping at New Town Plaza, this Dimdimsum eatery is situated well for these attractions and worth seeking out if you want a local dim sum experience.

Tip: If helpful, you can download Hong Kong Dim Sum app. on the Discovery Hong Kong website or by way of the TripAdvisor Hong Kong forum. This can help a great deal and ensure you are able to try dim sum varieties that you are interested in trying

Tip: How much dim sum to order - Generally speaking, we suggest trying 3 baskets for every 2 people. If you want to go solo, no problem, order two baskets.
